Went to see Coraline yesterday (not in 3D). It was alright, but not great. It looked good. The whole Doll thing was a nice idea. I felt tense in the right places. But somehow, all the way through I was thinking "Mirrormask did it better".
And that's the problem. The film may have looked good, but I prefer the look of Mirrormask; in fact, I preferred everything about Mirrormask.
It also felt a little... lost. So much felt British, from the downstairs actresses to the uniforms - which were being sold on President's Day.
I've also recently seen Star Trek. What can I say about it - Chris Pine is fucking hot. In that black uniform... wow. Out of that black uniform... PHWOAR! Ahem, the film. Right, yes. It was alright. I'm not a Star Trek Fan (no, I won't hand in my geek card) but I found it enjoyable enough. Although could they not make up their minds what "Red Matter" did? Wormholes or Blackholes - one or t'other having both made no sense (so the red matter crushed and destroyed the planet, but transported the ship back in time...).
Next on my cinema roster is probably Sounds Like Teen Spirit - a documentary about Junior Eurovision. Given I'm not a fan of documentaries or Eurovisions I wonder why I'm thinking of going, but the trailer made me laugh. Followed, possibly, by Terminator Salvation.
